The idea of a metric system - a system of units based on the meter and pounds - appeared during the French Revolution when they made two platinum artifact - reference standards for the meter and kilogram and left in storage in the French National Archives in Paris in 1799 . Later they were known as "Backup Meter" and "Archive Kilogram." French Academy of Sciences is authorized by parliament to create a new system of units for use around the world. In 1946 the Member States of the Metre Convention adopted MKSA system (meter, kilogram, second, ampere). In 1954 MKSA expanded by including kelvin and candela. Since then, the system adopted the name International System of Units, SI.
The system currently includes seven SI base units, together with derivative units make up a coherent system. In addition, some other unit outside the system, have been accepted for use in conjunction with units SI.
Definition meter m length unit of length is the length of the path traveled by light in a vacuum amazing lights for a time interval 1/299792458 of a second. Mass kilogram kg unit of mass equal to the mass of the international prototype of the kilogram (cylinder made of an alloy of platinum and iridium) kept at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in Paris. s second time unit of time is the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding amazing lights to the transition amazing lights between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium atom -133. Electric current ampere A unit of electric current is constant electric current which, if maintained in two straight parallel conductors of infinite length, of negligible circular cross-section, and placed 1 meter apart in vacuum, would produce between these conductors a force 2.10 -7 newton amazing lights per meter of their length. kelvin K thermodynamic temperature unit of thermodynamic temperature is a 1/273, 16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water. Amount of substance mole mol unit of amount of substance is the amount of substance of a system which contains as structural units (elements) as atoms contained in 0.012 kg of carbon 12 (structural units are 6,023 10 23, or Avogadro's number). candela cd Intensity unit of light intensity is the luminous intensity in a given direction from the source emitting monochromatic radiation at a frequency of 12 hertz 540.10 and intensity of the radiation in the direction of 1/683 watts per steradian.
Corner units are considered a special class additional units (proposed by the BIPM). SI derived units are obtained by works of degrees of SI base units and / or supplementary SI units and serve to measure other quantities. Although all of basic units can be combined, not all volumes have names obtained.
Definition radian rad Plane angle radian is the angle between two radii of a circle which cut off its circumference an arc equal to its radius. steradian sr solid angle steradian is the solid angle of a cone with vertex at the center of a sphere of radius r, which cuts the surface of the sphere an area equal to the area of a square with sides equal to the radius of the sphere (r ).
