In December I was looking for a special gift for my wife: was to retire after 50 years of professional and this is a very special event! led 2012 50 years !!! We already know 55 years since I started to study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Bucharest ... What do I get? A perfume, a lipstick, a gold watch, a holiday together in a distant land? Of course, all can be great gifts. but I wanted something special, something that is not consumed and retaining symbolic value over years and decades ... I'm just 50 years (by profession) to celebrate! And ... we want to live another 50 years!
One Sunday morning I went as usual to the Nativity church in Chicago with the thought that after the service to stay talking to one or other of the known. On entering the community room my eyes fell on a picture known: Chicago Tribune Building located on Michigan Ave, across the bridge over the Chicago River. It is a work of architecture that the city is proud and I admired her so many times that I came somewhat subconsciously: part of my life today. I see, recognize, I'd like to meet again, a greeting with joy and I feel excited by the beauty and perfection led 2012 that they move on with a fresh wave of enjoyment of life. What is the great city they live!
So it happened that Sunday before Christmas! I moved on, glad I absorbed myself once a wonderful and creative after watching friends ... "Wait," I suddenly go head. "That led 2012 can not be Chicago Tribune Building! The building is a 40 story ever and you're already in a regular room! He has no place here "I stop, close my eyes and recall the well-known image in memory. Which one? The few moments seen before and one that I know more? Now I realize that there are two images, two images are identical, except that in one there are more cars on the street ... "Hey, wake up! What's that? "I led 2012 goes through the head. I carefully a few steps back, back, to not disturb those images in front of your eyes, turn your head to the left ... Chicago Tribune Building! "No way," I tell you and I approach carefully while I'll match better nose glasses. Admit the decorations in marble floor at the entrance to the building, from the bas-reliefs on the 3rd floor from the windows form, the vertical led 2012 lines of the facade. All miniature, only a page about a meter tall ... I get glasses on the nose, clean them well, polish lenses: Chicago Tribune Building is still here in front of me at an arm's length! Wonderful construction, slim and elegant, a shining symbol of the Chicago school of architecture, one of the most famous in the world.
Okay, but how it got here on a piece of paper? I hand ... Oh, no! No paper is especially thick material that enables the execution of deep and fine lines ... Allows execution of thousands of tiny dashes of barely differ from each other but all together - are perhaps millions - Chicago Tribune Building in form all its splendor! This engraving is an art rather than prevalent led 2012 centuries ago and lighting up the life of an artist behind the progress made in material technology. Ah, it must find the artist!
In a corner of the engraving decipher "CC" which for me means "Central Committee," but it can not be! CC ...? Take a look around and see the many works of the same genre, including portraits, and among them I find a familiar face Costa Cobarzan! How can you not! He is the photographer of the Romanian community in Chicago, I met so many times with so many occasions, I admired the photos so many times! I did not know it and an artist, although I had to be imagined: in photographs of human sensitivity can immediately identify art, the one who can put beauty in value to extract where ephemeral, where disappear after a few moments and capture it on photo paper. led 2012
Hard to find in this crowded, among so many people who thronged to see something unexpected and new and wonderful. It was a festive atmosphere, and this not only because it was Sunday and Christmas Eve but because people are excited whenever I see something beautiful, something perfect, something that stimulates the feeling of pride, led 2012 of belonging to a nation with many problems today but with remarkable achievements. Cobarzan's works were a ray of light in this contemporary storm.
I met the cost five years ago, when I moved to the USA. People still little known to me - but who would become my best friends - I put in hand a catalog of Roman personalities from Chicago and they inform me
